Download & Installation

CuraOS can be downloaded here for stand-alone installation.

MD5 checksum: CuraOS_041.iso.md5

Preparing a storage medium

The downloaded file can be transferred to a USB storage medium so that the system can be run on a PC. Available storage memoryon the installation medium should be at least 4GB.

In Linux

Many distributions already contain programs with which storage media can be recorded with iso files (e.g. under Ubuntu “Startup Disk Creator”). If such a program is not available, you can carry out the following steps:

  • Connect USB memory.
  • Check the name under which the memory was mounted using the following command line:
lsblk
  • Change to the directory where the iso file was downloaded (e.g. under “Downloads”):
cd Downloads
  • Transfer the file to the USB memory device. Please note below that the file name varies depending on the version downloaded and “sdx” indicates the location of your USB memory, which may differ on your system.
sudo dd bs=4M if=CuraOS_04.iso of=/dev/sdx && sync

In Windows

We recommend using free software such as Rufus to record a USB storage medium. Connect the storage device to be recorded to the computer, run the program and follow instructions on the screen.

Booting from USB

Connect the USB memory device to your PC, start it and press the desired key (e.g. F2, F10 or Esc) to access the BIOS.

To boot with the USB stick, many computers have special keys that you can press during boot to select the device. Typical keys for the boot device menu are Esc, one of the function keys, Return or Shift. Take a close look at the first screen that appears on reboot to find the correct key.
Alternatively, you may need to go into the BIOS to change the order of the boot devices:

  • Start the computer and press the desired key at the beginning (e.g.
F2, F10 or Esc) to call up the BIOS.
  • Click on the Boot tab (or use the arrow to go there).
  • Identify and mark your USB device (usually the USB hard disk) and insert it into the hard disk) and move it to the top of the list (or enter it, if your system is set up for this). Save and exit.
